On December 18, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine failed to recall People’s Deputy Yury Boyk from the post of a member of the Committee on Human Rights, Deoccupation and Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories, MP Oleksiy Goncharenko reported.

According to his report, there were nine votes missing for a positive decision: “The fighter was not kicked out of the committee. There were not enough votes. In favor – 217. God, such a shame has not happened for a long time,” Goncharenko wrote in a telegram.

This message was confirmed by another member of the Verkhovna Rada, Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

The other day, People’s Deputy Yuriy Boyko, the former co-chairman of the “Opposition Platform – For Life” party, which was banned in 2022, posted a video on TikTok in which he accused unnamed “radicals” of forbidding people in Ukraine to speak their native language, go to church, which they want, demolish monuments and rename cities.

“This movement continues, violence against people continues. That is why more and more people support us – those who oppose such violence, for unity in the country, for the support of the people,” said Boyko, who was previously the Minister of Fuel and Energy in the government of the now fugitive President Viktor Yanukovych.

The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, responding to the statement of the chairman of the Platform for Life and Peace parliamentary group, said that it is impossible to talk about violence and not mention Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

The deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Olena Kondratyuk, said that the parliament could consider Boyko’s statements at the conciliation council.

The Verkhovna Rada has prepared a draft resolution on the recall of People’s Deputy Yury Boyk from the post of a member of the Committee on Human Rights, Deoccupation and Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine after his recent statements, Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, head of the Verkhovna Rada’s Committee on Freedom of Speech, said.

Boyko, in a comment to Radio Svoboda, answering a question about whether his activity on TikTok is “preparation for the elections”, said that posting videos on the platform “has become no more than one of the directions of the communication strategy.” He also stated in a written response received on December 17 that “this has nothing to do with Russia and its narratives.”
