State Border Service: one more man drowned while trying to swim across the Tisza

“The drowning man was a 39-year-old citizen of Ukraine from the Kyiv region. The man’s body was in the river at a distance of 5 meters from the Romanian shore””, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org

The body of a dead man was pulled from the Tisza River, the State Border Service reported on December 18.

The day before, the border guards received a notification about the body found in the river from their Romanian colleagues.

“The drowning man was a 39-year-old citizen of Ukraine from the Kyiv region. The man’s body was found in the river at a distance of 5 meters from the Romanian shore, between the settlements of Bedevlja (Ukraine) and Remeta (Romania),” the message reads.

The DPSU assumes that the man became a victim of the organizers of illegal crossing the border, who “put their “clients” in mortal danger for the sake of money.”

According to the SBI data, as of December 10 of this year, as part of the elimination of schemes for the transfer of conscripted men across the state border, 287 criminal proceedings were investigated regarding the illegal transfer of persons across the border.

At the end of April 2024, the press secretary of the State Border Service of Ukraine Andriy Demchenko reported that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine, more than 30 people who tried to illegally cross the western border have been killed.

After the start of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, martial law was introduced and general mobilization was announced. Most men between the ages of 18 and 60 are prohibited from traveling abroad.
