“The European Parliament is preparing a resolution on Russian historical falsifications The European Parliament plans to vote on a resolution on Russian disinformation and historical falsifications. The document exposes Russia’s attempts to justify aggression against Ukraine and to influence EU policy.”, — write on: unn.ua
The resolution is entitled “Disinformation and historical falsification of Russia to justify its aggressive war against Ukraine.”
The European Parliament notes that the Russian Federation uses disinformation and distorts historical facts in order to pursue an imperial policy and justify an aggressive war against Ukraine. Information manipulation campaigns are coordinated and financed by the Russian government and are one of the foundations of the Kremlin’s state policy.
“The Russian authorities have been rewriting history textbooks (…), bringing imperial war propaganda into schools and brainwashing children for years. And this has obvious consequences. Russia is imprisoning its own historians and destroying truth-seeking organizations. For example, Yuriy Dmitriev, thanks to whom the victims of Stalinist repressions were found in Karelia. We have already seen it in action in the Soviet Union,” she said in the debate on the falsification of history in the Russian Federation, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas.
Kaya Kallas believes that disinformation campaigns carried out by the Kremlin are a major element of a hybrid war, the front of which “passes through our own democracies, universities, parliaments, media and other institutions”. Thus, Moscow is trying to influence internal politics in EU countries and weaken support for Ukraine.
