It is noted that the decisive moment was the awarding of 40 electoral votes to Trump from the state of Texas at the meeting on Tuesday, December 17. Despite winning the election on November 5, his victory was formally confirmed as part of the constitutional voting process of the Electoral College.

Congress will approve the results on January 6, 2025, and Trump will be inaugurated on January 20.

Trump received 304 votes against the required 270. His opponent, Kamala Harris, had 167.
