The court found the 40-year-old former law enforcement officer guilty of treason committed during martial law (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. This is reported by the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
The convict, a former employee of the National Police Directorate in the Luhansk region, served as part of a joint unit in the Kupyan district and was involved in the Defense Forces of Ukraine. In June 2023, he established contact through the Telegram messenger with an acquaintance who, after the full-scale invasion, left for Russia and worked for the special services of the aggressor country.
On the instructions of the Russian curator, the accused collected and transmitted information about the positions of the Ukrainian military, their equipment, movement routes and passwords. This data was used to plan enemy missile and bomb attacks on the territory of Ukraine.
Subversive activities lasted from June to October 2023. In November, law enforcement officers exposed and detained the traitor. He was remanded in custody, and he was dismissed from the ranks of the National Police.
During the trial, the accused admitted his guilt, stating that he acted under the pressure of the Russian curator’s threats to massacre his relatives.
The pre-trial investigation was carried out by the SBU Department in the Kharkiv region. Currently, the term for appealing the verdict continues.
