Details: As the Ministry of Defense of the country said, on December 11, NATO fighters flew sorties to identify two Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft and one Il-20 aircraft, probably of this model.

It is noted that the planes flew in the international airspace from the Kaliningrad region without a flight plan, without an activated radar transponder and without radio communication with the Regional Flight Control Center.

Last Thursday, December 12, NATO air patrol aircraft took to the air again to identify the Il-20 and Tu-214PU, as well as the Il-18 passenger plane.

These planes flew from the Kaliningrad region to the Russian mainland or back without a flight plan, and the IL-20 did not have an activated radar transponder.

On December 13, NATO fighter jets flew a sortie to identify an IL-76 military aircraft and two Tu-214 passenger aircraft that were flying from Kaliningrad to the Russian mainland without a flight plan.

And on Sunday, December 15, an An-72 cargo plane was identified, which was flying to Kaliningrad without a flight plan and with the radar transponder turned off.

The Alliance’s air police mission in the Baltic states is being conducted from Lithuania and temporarily from Latvia while the Estonian airbase is undergoing repairs.

In one of the weeks of August 2024, fighter jets performing the functions of NATO air police in the Baltic countries rose three times to intercept Russian planes that violated flight rules.

And at the beginning of December, during the patrol flights of the NATO mission near the airspace of Latvia, Russian military aircraft were spotted and identified.
