– How did you perceive the situation surrounding the positive result of the anti-doping test?
– I found out about everything late. It was the last conversation before Iga hired me. She then wrote that “we need to talk about this.” She told me everything I appreciated. It was a great start to our collaboration because we gained trust.
Later, when she explained everything to me, I was sure that the case was clean: she took a microcontaminated drug, she was suspended for a short time and she had proof of everything, the conclusions of experts, the results of analyzes carried out in independent laboratories.
– Were you not afraid that the suspension would continue and your cooperation would be called into question?
– I don’t think that she should have been suspended at all. Even if it did, the opportunity to work with someone like Iga was an obvious decision. I had no doubts.
– Do anti-doping rules need to be changed?
– Yes, because there is a difference between taking a drug to improve results and detecting something very small in the blood. Today’s technology is simply very accurate. The situation Iga faced could have happened to anyone. The rules need to be changed.
– Devices used by anti-doping laboratories are already more accurate than those used by drug manufacturers. This could mean that in 10 years almost every top athlete in the world will have a similar story…
– Tennis players even have to be careful about what they eat and who they shake hands with. It doesn’t have to go that far. We need to catch those who take something and are not “clean”. We don’t want the innocent to be portrayed in a bad light.
