The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Latvia Evika Silinea.
The head of state spoke about the situation on the battlefield, as well as about efforts to repair the energy infrastructure and restore electricity supply to people after today’s massive shelling by Russia.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi thanked Latvia for all the defense support provided and noted that Ukraine needs training and equipment from allies of brigades following the example of France and the USA. Such steps can not only help in bringing a just and lasting peace for Ukraine, but also in guaranteeing security for the whole of Europe.
The President added that the Baltic and Northern European countries can play a joint role in the preparation and equipping of the brigades, and the JEF military association can play a joint role in coordination. According to Volodymyr Zelenskyi, our state is interested in full membership in this alliance.
One of the topics that was also discussed during the meeting was the European integration of Ukraine. The President emphasized that Ukraine is ready to do everything necessary for the parallel opening of negotiation clusters next year and expects full support from Latvia.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Evika Silinia agreed that a fair end to the war is possible if Ukraine is in the strongest position, with a sufficient number of manned brigades, air defense and determination to integrate into the EU and NATO.
