In South Korea, events began to develop very quickly with the introduction of martial law and its cancellation.
The Parliament of South Korea voted “for” the abolition of martial law – a total of 190 votes were cast, the Telegram channel “Watch” writes. According to the Constitution, the president must revoke the decree after a vote.
Special forces were working in the building of the National Assembly in Seoul, near the entrance there are ongoing clashes with security forces, who are carrying out the president’s decree. Local media previously reported that the South Korean parliament will soon vote on the abolition of martial law.
At the same time, there is a serious threat to the authorities, especially after Yoon Seok-yeol imposed a ban on investigating corruption schemes in which he and his wife are involved in 2023, according to political scientist Ihar Tyshkevich on Facebook.
“In 2024, the topic of “impeachment” began to gain momentum. Yoon Seok-yeol’s rating dropped to 24-25%. In October, activists collected more than a million signatures on a petition calling for his resignation. Before that, there was a letter from university professors and representatives of the business elite. Procedure began. But during wartime, this is impossible,” said the expert.
In addition, he considers the question interesting – whose side will the army take, and what position will the US take.
President of South Korea Yoon Seok-yeol – what is knownHe has ruled the country for only two years, from 2022, when he won the elections with a small margin (0.7%). At the same time, the South Korean parliament is controlled by the opposition, which creates special problems for the head of state in the process of promoting his programs.
He does not have the ability to pass his own laws, so he periodically vetoed bills that the opposition wanted to pass. More recently, the opposition has cut budgets that have been proposed by the ruling party and the government, while simultaneously calling for the impeachment of South Korea’s Cabinet members and the president himself. The reason is the “failure to investigate the activities of the first lady”, who is suspected of manipulations with shares.
The effect of martial law in South KoreaIt is reported that during the martial law in this country, the work of political parties is suspended, political actions and any political activity – in general – are prohibited. In addition, all mass media (mass media) are under state control.
Other news from South KoreaPreviously, UNIAN reported that South Korea completed the development of a new interceptor of ballistic missiles or aircraft – at an altitude of more than 40 km in the final stage of descent.
In addition, starting in 2025 in South Korea, schools will begin to study English, computer science and mathematics using textbooks written by artificial intelligence.
