“What should Russia do? Preferably with three letters” – Zelensky at a press conference with Sholtz

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, answering the question about what Russia should do to start peace talks, answered: “three letters.” He said this during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Kyiv on December 2.

“What should Russia do? Preferably three letters, to be honest, between us. It is desirable that she simply understands that she is doing what she is doing – she is killing us, and we are defending ourselves and fighting the enemy,” President Zelenskyy said.

He also noted that Ukraine’s plans are “unchangeable”.

“After all, we really want to be stronger so that this war ends in this year, in the 25th year. Sorry for the undiplomatic language,” Zelenskyy added.

In November, Reuters reported, citing sources including five current and former high-ranking Russian officials, that Putin was ready to discuss with Trump after he took office the possibility of a ceasefire in Ukraine and, in particular, was ready to agree to freezing the war on the current front line, but has no intention of giving up most of the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia, and insists that Ukraine should not join NATO.

The Kremlin, commenting on this publication, said that Putin is open to negotiations, but does not agree to freezing the front line.

Kyiv has repeatedly stated that it cannot agree to any territorial concessions or freezing of the conflict. Such a freeze, according to the Ukrainian authorities, will only help Russia better prepare for a new attack.

Analysts of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) concluded in their report dated November 27 that Russian high-ranking officials demonstrate that the Kremlin is not willing to make compromises in the war against Ukraine.
