The record holder of Warsaw Legia, whom Real Madrid wanted to buy, has died

On December 2, the legendary Polish football player died in Warsaw at the age of 91 Lucian Brychchi.

He took his first steps in football in the team “Pogon” Novy Bytom. In 1954, he was drafted into the army, after which he became a player of the Warsaw “Legia”.

It was with the army men that Brychchi won four Polish championship titles (1955, 1956, 1969 and 1970) and four Polish Cups (1955, 1956, 1964 and 1966). He played 368 matches and scored 182 goals in 19 seasons as part of Legia.

His scoring record in the club’s history is still unbeaten.

In the 1969/70 season, together with Legia, Brychchi reached the semi-finals of the Champions Cup. After this season, representatives of Real Madrid came to the club and offered Lucian a contract. The Pole agreed to the terms of the Spaniards, but due to the restrictions of the communist regime, he could not leave the country.

Later, he had the opportunity to move to the Italian “Milan”, but the political situation again prevented this transfer.

After the end of his playing career, Lucian worked for many years as a coach of Warsaw Legia.
