US President Joe Biden pardoned his son Hunter late in the evening on December 1.

In doing so, he freed the younger Biden from possible jail time for gun and tax offenses.

Earlier, the president stated that he would not pardon his son or reduce his sentence after he was found guilty in two cases.

The move came just weeks before Hunter Biden was scheduled to receive his sentence following his gun conviction and guilty plea to tax charges.

In June, a court in Wilmington, Delaware found Biden Jr. guilty of providing false information in connection with the purchase of a firearm and possessing such a weapon while under the influence of drugs. Hunter Biden faced up to 25 years in prison on all three charges. The court was to rule on his punishment 120 days after the verdict.

Another lawsuit in Los Angeles centers on allegations that Hunter Biden failed to pay at least $1.4 million in taxes over a four-year period while he said he was struggling with drug addiction.

Donald Trump won the US presidential elections, the change of administration and transfer of power should take place on January 20.
