The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that the first priority is faster delivery of weapons by partners.
In particular, he commented on the report that the current US President Joe Biden’s administration is demanding that Ukraine reduce the age of mobilization to 18 years.
“I can confirm that this topic is being discussed in the negotiations. I can deny that it is a point of tension or that it is being discussed in a critical or negative way,” Tykhi said.
At the same time, as the spokesman emphasized, Ukraine usually initiates such discussions and informs partners about the dynamics and mobilization indicators in Ukraine.
“It’s part of the discussions, like other topics such as arms delivery, strategy, defense, sanctions, deterrence, etc. It’s being discussed among other topics. I can’t say that I’ve heard or seen it become a point of disagreement or tension in the negotiations “, said Tykhy.
At the same time, as the spokesman explained, there is a situation in Ukraine where there is a lack of the appropriate amount of weapons and equipment to equip already mobilized men.
Tykhiy said that in Ukraine they do not see the issue of increasing mobilization as the main problem, as they write with reference to sources in foreign media:
“We believe that the already announced aid – weapons and equipment – should arrive faster. This has been our consistent position since the beginning of a full-scale war.”
According to the diplomat, the scale of the war forces Ukraine to always have more weapons and equipment.
“Only after Ukraine wins will we be able to come out and say that the aid was enough. Until then, of course, we will always need more aid,” said Tykhi.
He repeated that Ukraine is currently in a situation where more weapons and equipment are needed for people who have already joined the army.
“We believe that the first priority is to send military aid as soon as possible,” Tykhy summarized.
Lowering the mobilization age in UkraineAs UNIAN reported, according to Western media, the administration of US President Joe Biden is pressuring Ukraine to lower the mobilization age to 18 in order to quickly increase its armed forces for the war with Russia.
