The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhiy Tykhiy, said at the briefing that Ukraine actively informs its partners about the dynamics of mobilization, but currently the main priority is to ensure quick and timely delivery of weapons to the Defense Forces.
He noted that the issue of lowering the mobilization age to 18, which is being discussed with the administration of US President Joe Biden, is not a topic of disagreement or tension at the negotiations. This issue is part of a broader discussion that also includes arms provision, defense strategies, sanctions and other important aspects.
Tykhyi emphasized that Ukraine does not consider the problem of increased mobilization to be the main issue at the moment. More important for the country is the quick delivery of the necessary equipment and weapons to the already mobilized people. The diplomat noted that Ukraine needs more equipment and weapons to successfully wage war and achieve victory. Only then will it be possible to assess whether the assistance was sufficient.
He also added that the issue of the speed of delivery of military aid remains critically important, and it is the main priority for Ukraine.
The USA urged Ukraine to lower the mobilization age to 18. However, there is no sense in this, as the country does not receive the promised weapons from its partners on time, said Dmytro Lytvyn, adviser to the President of Ukraine.
At the same time, People’s Deputy and member of the Defense Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, Serhii Rakhmanin, said that currently the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is not going to lower the mobilization age from 60 to 50.
