The complaint filed by the candidate Sebastian Popescu regarding the fraud committed by the candidate Celin Georgescu was dismissed.
The court also asked the CEC to provide the results of the recount.
A new session of the Constitutional Court will be held on Friday, November 29, from 14:00, to decide on the request to cancel the first round of the presidential elections, submitted by the candidate of the National Conservative Party of Romania, Christian Terges.
All decisions of the Constitutional Court are final.
The head of the Permanent Electoral Body, Tony Greble, stated live on the Digi 24 TV channel that a recount can be carried out if there is strong evidence. He emphasized that there are more than 9 million ballots currently in the archives of the district courts to be recounted, and the recount cannot be done in a few hours or days.
Romanian legislation provides that in the event of annulment of the election result by the Constitutional Court, a repeat vote shall be held on the second Sunday after the date of annulment.
Romania’s National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council is asking the European Commission to open an official investigation into the TikTok app and the possible misuse of the platform, which ensured the lead in the first round of the presidential election of little-known far-right politician Celin Georgescu.
On November 28, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis convened a meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defense – the country’s highest security body – to discuss the threat of interference in the election process.
