On November 27, the UN Security Council held a meeting regarding Russia’s shelling of Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.

During the meeting, the representative of North Korea, Kim Son, among other things, blamed the West for the war in Ukraine, saying that “the Ukrainian crisis was started by the USA” allegedly with the aim of undermining Russia’s territorial integrity.

The Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Serhii Kyslytsia, took the floor after that. He stated that he would not comment on “the fantasies of North Korea, edited by the Russian representative office.”

“But I force myself to stay in this chamber out of respect for this institution and the need to look the representative of the DPRK in the eyes and tell him directly that he represents a criminal regime. A regime that helps another criminal regime. After all, sooner or later you and your leadership will end up on the dock, and your people will be free,” said the Ukrainian diplomat.

Before that, the representative of the United States mission to the UN, Robert Wood, reacted to the statement of the DPRK, who said that Washington “will continue to take all necessary steps to help Ukraine defend itself.”

“I would like to ask the DPRK: has the DPRK sent troops to Russia?” Wood asked instead.

After that, the representative of Russia criticized the USA for “speculations” and “defamation of disagreeing countries”, but did not answer the question directly.

In response to Wood’s question, Kim Sung said that Pyongyang has the right to develop its relations with Russia.

“The agreement on comprehensive partnership between the DPRK and Russia fully complies with international law and the UN Charter, so the DPRK will remain committed to its obligations under this agreement,” he said.

On November 24, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation announced that there are more than 11,000 North Korean troops in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, and they have already participated in battles against the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Intelligence services of Ukraine, Western countries and South Korea previously reported on the sending of North Korean troops to the combat zone in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. It is claimed that about 12,000 North Korean troops from amphibious assault units were provided to Moscow.

The participation of the North Korean military in the Russian invasion of Ukraine was the first large-scale deployment of North Korean troops abroad and their first use in Europe. North Korea is under the toughest international sanctions in the world. Any military cooperation with it was prohibited by the order of the UN Security Council.

Moscow, which was involved in the development and implementation of these restrictions, later called them obsolete as it stepped up its military cooperation with Pyongyang.
