Direct speech: “I signed the letter (about the nomination of Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize – ed.) not only as a deputy, but also as a professor of law, since professors can also, according to the rules of the Nobel Committee, nominate applicants.”

Details: According to the deputy, he nominated Trump for his “diplomatic achievements during the previous presidential term, strengthening Ukraine’s military capabilities and with the hope that Trump’s plan to establish peace in Europe will be based on international law.”

“First of all, during his first presidential term, Donald Trump contributed to the conclusion of the so-called Abraham agreements. These are the agreements that strengthened peace in the Middle East and contributed to stability in this region as a whole. This, I believe, is a very significant diplomatic achievement of Donald Trump as president Secondly, in my opinion, he made a significant contribution to the fight against Russian aggression and strengthened Ukraine’s military capabilities the president of the United States, who began to provide military and technical assistance to Ukraine,” Merezhko explained his decision.

He said that it was during the Trump administration that Ukraine began to receive Javelin ATGMs, and this support helped in defense after the start of full-scale Russian aggression.

Trump also, according to the People’s Deputy, strengthened the coalition of states aimed at protecting Ukraine against Russian aggression; he spoke against the construction of “Nord Stream-2” – a project that, unfortunately, was promoted by Germany at the time.

In addition, Merezhko noted Trump’s plans to achieve a just peace in Ukraine.

Like, judging by Trump’s speeches and statements, he has plans to achieve peace in Europe.

“We still don’t know his specific plans, but I hope that he will be based on international law, that is, that it will not be pacification of the aggressor at the expense of Ukraine, but on the contrary, that it will be a just peace based on international law,” – convinced Merezhko.

The People’s Deputy emphasized that it is important for Ukraine that Trump’s peace initiatives do not violate the principles of international law. “For example, respect for the territorial integrity of Ukraine, its sovereignty and, of course, the principle of non-use of force in international relations,” the “servant of the people” emphasized.

We will remind: Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba cautioned against hopes for a truce between Russia and Ukraine thanks to the future efforts of US President-elect Donald Trump and stressed that the Kremlin regime continues to pursue its original goals.
