The action of the series unfolds against the background of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. It follows the journey of Paul (Wesley), an ex-soldier turned taxi driver in Poland.
“After receiving a desperate call from his wife in Kyiv on the day of the invasion, he races forward in time, crossing borders to get his family to safety amid chaos and unimaginable horror. Over the phone, he guides them through a landscape of fear and violence, heightening the sense of urgency , while they fight for survival in the face of insurmountable odds,” according to Deadline.
Inspired by the real-life events that took place on the day of the Russian invasion, the series will follow Paul’s search in a war-torn territory, but through his own internal battles of redemption and resilience.
“In a world engulfed in war, I am passionate about bringing to life the human side of this conflict through the lens of one man and his family. I hope that audiences will be moved by Paul’s struggle and take away something meaningful about life, values and resilience from his journey and a renewed understanding of the human spirit under pressure,” Wesley pointed out.
David Straighton, who directed episodes of Magnum, The Good Doctor and MacGyver, will direct the series, which is a co-production of four countries: Poland, Ukraine, Germany and the United States. The series was written by the Polish writer Philip Sychynsky, together with the Ukrainian Zhanna Ozirna.
Filming will take place mainly in English with a small amount of Ukrainian and Polish. Production should begin in Eastern Europe in the winter of 2025-2026.
