“You don’t have to love Ukraine to continue helping it” – Donald Tusk

Poland and Europe will be much safer if Ukraine is independent, strong and ready to further oppose Russian aggression”, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org

The most effective protection of Polish and European borders is the support of Ukraine, said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on November 27 before meetings in the Baltic-Scandinavian format, where Poland was invited as a special guest.

According to Tusk, these meetings will discuss relations between Europe and the US in the context of Western security, regional cooperation in security issues, and the war in Ukraine. The head of the Polish government emphasized that everyone wants peace, but it must be a just peace with respect for the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

“You don’t need to love Ukraine, you don’t need big words about solidarity and reconciliation, the calculated, cold interest of Poland and Europe is enough to continue helping Ukraine. It cannot be assumed that if, perhaps, America refuses that massive aid to Ukraine, then Europe should do the same. Quite the opposite, because it is in our interests for Ukraine to persevere and emerge victorious from this confrontation with Russia,” Tusk said.

He emphasized that Poland and Europe will be much safer if Ukraine is independent, strong and ready to further oppose Russian aggression: “Sentiments or resentments do not matter here, cold calculation tells us.”

On November 20, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi held a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk.

“Thanked the Polish people for their solidarity with Ukraine since the first days of the full-scale invasion and the Prime Minister for his personal principled response to the latest Russian shelling and attempts to end the political isolation of the Russian dictator Putin,” the message reads.

The head of the Polish government said that his country is preparing for the transfer of the 45th support package and has already started work on the next defense package.
