Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba cautioned against hopes for a truce between Russia and Ukraine thanks to the future efforts of US President-elect Donald Trump and stressed that the Kremlin regime continues to pursue its original goals.

Direct speech: “Putin still believes that he can destroy Ukrainian statehood, destroy Ukraine as an independent democratic country. And he thinks that he is now one step away from showing the weakness of the West … Putin is obsessed with Ukraine, but the destruction of Ukraine will mean for him the fulfillment of his great goal – to show the world how the West is unable to defend itself and its values.”

Details: Kuleba emphasized that the Russian ruler is not really interested in real negotiations. Kuleba said he saw no chance of success for Trump’s plans to “quickly end the war” as Putin now hopes to wear down the West and eventually get his way.

According to the ex-head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, he cannot imagine how President Volodymyr Zelenskyi could agree to “peace” with the demands that Moscow will definitely put forward.

“Let’s imagine Russia keeps Donbas, Crimea, Ukraine’s withdrawal from NATO. Can Zelenskyi sign it? He can’t, because it would contradict the Constitution. And because it would mean the “political end” for Zelenskyi,” he said.

He also stressed that if Trump starts to force Ukraine to negotiate with Russia, radically limiting military aid, the situation could deteriorate catastrophically.

“The front in Donbas may collapse, the Russians will find themselves near the suburbs of Dnipro, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia… This will be the most dangerous moment for Ukraine,” he stressed.

Kuleba noted that it is also important how European partners will act and to what extent they will be able to cover the shortage of American weapons.

He regretted the fact that, in general, the West still lacks awareness of the importance of the consequences of the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine and a clear understanding of its own goal.

“You cannot win when Russia clearly knows its strategic goal in the war in all details, when Ukraine knows its strategic goal, but the West, without which Ukraine cannot win, does not know what it is fighting for. This is the real tragedy of this war,” – noted Kuleba.

Prehistory:

  • Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that he wants to end the war between Russia and Ukraine “in 24 hours.” However, as far as is known, he did not have any concrete plans to implement this.
  • At the same time, according to the media, among the proposals there is an alleged figurethere are the idea of freezing the front on the current line with the demilitarized zone and a 20-year moratorium on Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
  • In the first days after the presidential elections in the USA, Zelenskyi emphasized that for Ukraine, thoughts about any concessions to Russia are unacceptable and it would be “suicide for the whole of Europe.”
  • Later, he expressed an assessment that Trump is at war “will end sooner”.
