The nearly two-year investigation uncovered evidence obtained through searches, wiretapping, analysis of financial records and testimony provided as part of a plea agreement.
The report stated that Bolsonaro was not only involved in planning the coup, but also coordinated meetings with the military in which he discussed the abolition of the rule of law.
Literally: “Bolsonaro has effectively planned, directed and executed, in coordination with other officials, since at least 2019, specific actions aimed at abolishing the democratic rule of law, while he remained in office as president.”
Details: The police established that Bolsonaro knew about the plan to assassinate the newly elected president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and his deputy Geraldo Alcmin.
The report indicated that the investigation has evidence that supports the official accusation of Bolsonaro in the coup attempt. He presented the plan during a meeting in December 2022 with the high command of the armed forces, where he urged them to join the conspiracy.
According to the police, the army and air force chiefs refused, while the chief of the navy, now retired Admiral Almir Garnier Santos, according to the investigation, expressed his support.
Bolsonaro denies the charges.
