Moscow demands full surrender of Ukraine – ISW

Russian high-ranking officials demonstrate that the Kremlin does not seek to make compromises in the war against Ukraine, write analysts of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

“The director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (FSS) Sergey Naryshkin said on November 26 that Russia is open to negotiations, but added that Moscow “categorically rejects” any “freezing” of the current front line or the creation of a demilitarized zone. Naryshkin claimed that “eliminating” the reasons that “prompted” Russia to a full-scale invasion of Ukraine is the only way to ensure peace, demonstrating that Russia continues to uncompromisingly demand Ukraine’s full surrender,” the report said.

Experts remind that the Kremlin has repeatedly demanded that Ukraine give up all the territories of four Ukrainian regions, which Russian troops are not currently occupying.

“ISW has also recently predicted that the Russian military command is likely planning to advance to the extreme southeastern part of Dnipropetrovsk region… in support of Russia’s long-standing goal of capturing all of Donetsk region,” the Institute for the Study of War added.

Earlier this week, ISW analysts wrote that Russian forces are making tactical gains in western Donetsk region, closing in on the encirclement of Velika Novosilka and threatening Ukrainian supply lines leading to Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions, but for now this does not mean “automatic collapse of the Ukrainian front.”
