“Larry singled out his former rival Muhammad Ali”, — write: sport.ua
“Then, in 1980, I told the referee to stop the fight against Ali, ‘Don’t let this man in the ring,’ and he told me to shut up and box. I asked what should I do, kill him? I’m hitting him, can’t you see that? But they pushed him into the ring again. I wasn’t hitting him hard anymore, I was trying to make him give up.
I told Ali, “I still love you, man,” and he said, “If you love me, why are you hitting me?” I said it’s part of the game. And after the fight, I went to him in the locker room and hugged and kissed him. I told him, ‘You’re the best man, you’ll always be the best boxer ever,'” Holmes recalled.
In 1980, Holmes outclassed Muhammad, who entered the fight out of shape due to progressive Parkinson’s disease.
Holmes previously named a boxer who punched harder than Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson.
