“The former abbot of the Kherson Diocese of the UOC (MP) Oleksiy, who is hiding in Crimea, received 15 years in prison for treason in absentia. After the capture of the regional center, the archimandrite went to cooperate with the occupiers and the local Gauleiter Saldo,” the SBU said.
As the investigation established, the cleric regularly invited him to the church for pro-Kremlin speeches to the faithful. “Also, during the services, the archimandrite blessed the holding of a pseudo-referendum of the Russian Federation regarding the “joining” of the Kherson Region to Russia. In addition, the cleric personally appealed to the Moscow Patriarch Kirill with a request to include the local cathedral in the parish of the Russian Orthodox Church,” the SBU said.
“For supporting racism, the traitor was given real estate seized in the center of Kherson and invited to the Kremlin to participate in the “ceremony of incorporation” of temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine into the Russian Federation,” the message reads.
During the liberation of the regional center, the cleric fled with the Russian invaders, first to the left bank of the region, and then to the Crimea.
The court reportedly found the intruder guilty under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: ch. 2 Art. 111 (treason committed under martial law); h 1 Art. 111-2 (assistance to the aggressor state).
As indicated by the SBU, comprehensive measures are underway to bring him to justice for the crimes he committed against our state.
