In January-October 2024, Ukraine spent UAH 1.6 trillion on the security and defense sector, which is more than half of the general fund of the state budget. The Ministry of Finance informed about this on Tuesday, November 26, reports UNN.

UAH 1.6 trillion are the expenses of the general fund of the state budget for the security and defense sector in January-October 2024. This is 58.3% of the total amount of expenses of the general fund of the state budget. Of these, UAH 201.6 billion was used from the state budget in October

The funds were directed to:

  • cash support for military personnel, rank and file officers, police officers;
  • purchase of military/special equipment, weapons, ammunition, defense products, personal protective equipment (helmets, body armor and other special equipment), fuel and lubricants, food products;
  • medical care;
  • other costs to ensure the activities of relevant bodies and formations.

As the department emphasized, security and defense remains the largest item of state budget expenditures. It was also noted that military expenses are covered exclusively by internal revenues and borrowing.

Addition

In the state budget for 2025, the main item of expenditure is also defense. 22.1% or UAH 1.69 trillion will be directed to support the security and defense forces. Expenditures for the development of the defense industry are also planned: UAH 43 billion for the production of UAVs, as well as UAH 43 billion for the production of ammunition and weapons.
