“The SBU and the National Police detained a Russian agent who, on the order of enemy special services, committed a terrorist attack in the center of Kyiv on November 17 of this year,” the special service said.

That day, a police team arrived on a call about domestic violence in an apartment building in the Pechersk district of the capital.

“During the attempt of the law enforcement officers to enter the house at the entrance to the premises, the so-called “stretcher” with an F-1 grenade went off. As it turned out, no one lived in the apartment, and the “call” by a female voice to line 102 was a fake to lure into a trap and to kill policemen,” the SBU said.

“According to the SBU, this terrorist attack was planned by the Russian special services. To carry it out, they remotely engaged a 43-year-old resident of Kyiv region, who has already served 6 sentences for robbery, theft and escaping from prison,” the special service noted.

Before installing the “stretcher”, the agent reportedly completed a “test” task: he set fire to the relay cabinet of Ukrzaliznytsia on the outskirts of the capital and sent the relevant videos to the curator. “After that, the recidivist received step-by-step instructions for committing a terrorist attack against Ukrainian law enforcement officers,” the SBU reported.

“The perpetrator rented an apartment in the center of Kyiv, installed a “stretcher” with a live grenade there, as well as video cameras that were supposed to record the detonation in real time. According to the results of the professional actions of the police during the explosion, no one was injured. Soon after, law enforcement officers arrested the suspect “on hot pursuit “, the special service said.

The figure was informed of the suspicion under part. 2 Art. 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (terrorist act). The man is in custody. He faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
