Details: Analysts report that Russian troops continue to make significant tactical gains in the west of Donetsk region, approaching the encirclement of Velika Novosilka and threatening Ukrainian lines of communication. According to geolocation images published on November 24, units of the 5th Tank Brigade of the Russian Eastern Military District advanced to the eastern outskirts of Velika Novosilka.

Russian “outsiders” claim that Russian troops are also advancing to the northeast and southeast of this settlement, trying to force Ukrainian forces to retreat.
In addition, Russian troops are carrying out attacks in the southern direction. Geolocation data indicate that Russian troops have taken up positions along Peremogy Street in Kurakhovo, and have also approached Romanivka, northeast of Vugledar.
In addition, Russian troops continue to make efforts to eliminate a small “pocket” to the east of the road O0510 Kurakhovo-Velika Novosilka (southeast of Kurakhovo and northeast of Vugledar).
Geolocation data indicate that Russian troops have taken up positions along Peremogy Street in Kurakhovo, and have also approached Romanivka, that they have advanced northeast of Vugledar to Peremogy Street in the center of Kurakhovo.
Several Russian “military personnel” announced on November 25 that Russian troops captured Romanivka (northeast of Vugledar) and gained new positions in the fields near this settlement. While ISW currently has no confirmation that Russian troops are operating within Romanivka, geolocation footage released on November 24 shows two separate mechanized attacks by Russian platoons east of Romanivka near Illinka and Antonivka, indicating their advance towards settlement.
Russian “militants” note that Russian forces in this area are focused on forcing Ukrainian troops to retreat westward in the direction of Konstantinopolskyi (northwest of Vugledar).
Earlier, on November 24, the ISW had already assessed that the Russian military command had several potential options for action on this part of the front, and the Russian successes on November 24 and 25 correspond to two of these options: attempts to advance west from Kurakhovo along the H15 route to the Andriivka-Kostyantinople line and attempts to bypass Velika Novosilka and create a threat to Ukrainian groups in the eastern part of Zaporizhzhya region
Analysts say that Russian forces have already taken positions along the H15 road east of Kurakhovo and are likely to use the new positions along Peremogy Street (which runs south perpendicular to the H15 road) to push further west through Kurakhove and along the H15 towards Dachnoy and Andriivka (both west of Kurakhovo).
Literally: “The recent advance of Russian troops to Peremogy Street in the center of Kurakhovo indicates that they are approximately 15 km east of Andriivka. Both Russian “military personnel” and Ukrainian military observer Kostyantyn Mashovets have identified Andriivka as a Russian operational target for west of Kurakhovo, since its capture will give Russian troops a stronger position to cover the chain of settlements along the O0510 route to the northwest and northeast of Vugledar.”
Details: Analysts note that Russian troops may continue to advance westward along the H15 route in the direction of Andriyivka, while simultaneously attacking a “pocket” northeast of Vugledar along the Uspenivka-Hannivka-Romanivka line to force Ukrainian troops to retreat westward and avoid encirclement.
Literally: “Such a maneuver could allow Russian troops to gain tactical positions in the area and align the front line from Sontsivka (northwest of Kurakhovo) to Konstantinopolskyi, deploying troops approximately 23 km east of the border of Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions.”
Key findings:
- Russian forces continue to make tactical gains in the western part of Donetsk Oblast, closing in on the encirclement of Velika Novosilka and the Ukrainian land lines of communication that supply the region and lead to Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia Oblasts.
- These successes can become operationally important if the Russian command can use them effectively, which is currently not guaranteed. However, this does not mean the automatic collapse of the Ukrainian defense line.
- On the night of November 24-25, Ukrainian troops struck a Russian oil depot in the Kaluga region and an airbase in the Kursk region.
- The Ukrainian military is warning of a possible Russian ground offensive on Zaporozhye, although the timing and scope of this operation remain uncertain due to Russian losses in the Kursk and Donetsk regions.
- North Korea is reportedly expanding a key ballistic missile facility, likely to supply ballistic missiles to Russia.
- The Kremlin announced its intention to remove the Taliban from the list of banned organizations, increasing cooperation with the regime.
- Russian troops have recently advanced to the southwest of Toretsk, as well as to the south and southeast of Pokrovsk.
- It is also reported that Russian command posts use Chinese-made radios because Russia cannot produce enough quality radios for the Russian military.
