The White House takes “seriously” the Kremlin’s threats to “neutralize” the missile defense base in the Polish city of Redzikovo, according to a statement from communications adviser John Kirby.

Recently, in the north of Poland, in the village of Redzikovo, the US Aegis Ashore missile defense base was opened. To which the Russian Federation threatened Warsaw with “potential damage”.

“Such threats should be taken seriously, and we do. As reckless and irresponsible as they are, we take them seriously,” Kirby said.

At the same time, he added that “US President Joe Biden is adamant and that the US will do everything possible to make sure that US troops on the European continent are safe.”

“And, just as importantly, we take our Article 5 obligations to our NATO allies very seriously. It’s adamant and it’s not going to change,” Kirby emphasized.

Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia stated that the new US missile defense base in northern Poland will lead to an increase in the overall level of nuclear danger, noting that “this is another frankly provocative step.”

At the same time, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated that the anti-missile defense base in Poland is included in the “list of priority targets for potential destruction, which, if necessary, can be carried out by a wide range of advanced weapons.”

The air defense base, located in the city of Redzikovo near the coast of the Baltic Sea, was opened on November 13. The base is part of NATO’s broader anti-missile shield called Aegis Ashore, which the alliance says can intercept short- and medium-range ballistic missiles.

According to NATO, NATO’s anti-missile shield includes facilities in Poland and Romania, as well as US Navy destroyers at a naval base in Spain and an early warning radar in Turkey.
