An additional meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine in the Ramstein format may take place in December.
This was stated by General Christian Freuding, the head of the special staff for Ukraine at the German Ministry of Defense, reports European Truth.
He added that the format is still being clarified: these could be negotiations either at the level of defense ministers or with the participation of state leaders, including US President Joe Biden.
According to Freuding, the change of administration in the USA in January will not be an obstacle to support Ukraine. On the contrary, a meeting with the outgoing Biden administration will be useful in confirming long-term intentions regarding the continuation of arms supplies to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The general emphasized the importance of holding the meeting offline. This, in his opinion, will not only strengthen coordination, but will also become an important signal to partner countries about the unchanging support of Ukraine, regardless of changes in the political situation in the United States.
Germany has already transferred a significant aid package to Ukraine and is preparing to transfer new air defense systems, which underscores the need for further discussion of military support within the framework of Ramstein.
On October 8, US President Joe Biden canceled a trip to Germany, during which he was supposed to take part in a meeting in the Rammstein format. Hurricane Milton was the reason for the cancellation.
After that, the meeting of the group on the defense of Ukraine at the Ramstein air base was also postponed. The meeting was supposed to take place at the level of the leaders of the states.
On October 16, the press secretary of the White House, Karin Jean-Pierre, said that the meeting of the leaders of the countries in the Rammstein format will take place in November.
