As of today, November 25, data on 55,000 people have been entered in the Unified Register of Persons Disappeared Under Special Circumstances.
Artur Dobroserdov, the commissioner for issues of missing persons under special circumstances, announced this on TV.
He reminded that on November 1, the government adopted changes to the regulations concerning payments to the families of military personnel. Now, the court’s decision to declare a person dead can be the basis for issuing one-time cash assistance to the families of missing soldiers.
“As of today, we can already see that there are already such court decisions and that such payments are made based on these court decisions. According to the data of our register, we currently have more than 55,000 missing persons, and we have information about 641 such decisions made by national courts and which recognized a person as dead after examining the evidence provided by citizens,” said Dobroserdov.
Persons who were previously denied financial assistance due to the lack of evidence of the death of a military person can apply to the court at the place of registration or the last known place of residence of the missing person. It is also necessary to provide relevant evidence, information about possible witnesses who can confirm the fact of the citizen’s death.
“The court considers it and makes a decision. From the moment the court decision becomes legally binding, if it is not appealed, there are reasons for issuing the corresponding pensions,” the commissioner said.
We reported that Ukraine has changed the procedure for receiving one-time cash assistance for relatives of fallen servicemen. Funds can be received within three years from the date of the court’s decision to recognize the serviceman as deceased.
In addition, the Cabinet of Ministers normalized payments to military personnel who take or participated in the military operation in Kurshchyna.
