Moderated: the government approved the implementation plan of the Maritime Security Strategy developed by the Ministry of Defense

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the implementation plan of the Maritime Security Strategy developed by the Ministry of Defense, Minister of Defense Rustem Umyerov announced on November 22.

According to Umerov, the document aims to ensure the fulfillment of tasks and goals defined in the Strategy.

He listed the main objectives of the plan:

  • strengthening the capacity of the security and defense sector of Ukraine, the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Maritime Guard of the DPSU for “countering aggression and responding to other threats to maritime security”
  • ​deoccupation of the temporarily occupied territories of the coast, inland waters and continental shelf of Ukraine
  • receiving compensation for losses caused by Russia and restoring sea and river infrastructure damaged by the war

“Together we are approaching the moment when the Black and Azov seas will be completely free and safe for Ukraine again,” added the Minister of Defense.

The Maritime Security Strategy was approved by the National Security and Defense Council in July 2024. Subsequently, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi put the decision into effect by his decree.
