People’s deputy from the Servant of the People party Maksym Tkachenko refuted his statement about the number of displaced persons returning to the temporarily occupied territories.
“There is no such data. This was my unfounded and emotional assumption,” he said in a comment to Ukrinform.
Tkachenko noted that there are individual cases when Ukrainians are forced to travel to the occupied territories for various reasons.
“But it is by no means about hundreds or even tens of thousands, and there can be no general verified statistics even in theory. I spoke incorrectly, so I want to refute my words,” added the People’s Deputy.
Earlier, Tkachenko claimed that about 150,000 internally displaced Ukrainians returned to the temporarily occupied territories, 70,000 of them to Mariupol.

He called the main reason for the return of displaced persons the fact that they could not start a new life in the territory controlled by Ukraine.
“They did not receive adequate help from the state — neither housing, nor social support, compensation, work, etc. A large number of IDPs could not find work due to employers’ skeptical attitude towards them, and all those offers that are provided to displaced persons are actually very low-paid,” said the People’s Deputy.
