After the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the cinema was closed, so the couple decided to reopen it.According to the Irish Times, the star couple plans to start renovating the space. They planned it for next year. The venue, which was also a dance hall, was once considered one of the best cinemas in the UK and Ireland.
However, he is special not only in this. Murphy decided to restore it because he had been going there to watch movies since he was a child, and the place had become his home.
“My father used to go there before me when I was young and we saw a lot of films at the Phoenix. We understand what cinema means to the people of Dingle. We want to open the door again, expand the creative potential, restore its place in the cultural plane of this a unique city,” shared Killian and Yvonne.
The historic building is located in the center of Dingle and, by the way, “Phoenix” is the only cinema in this town. During its existence, the premises survived two fires in 1921 and 1938. It was reconstructed and changed. Zkorem, its facade, mosaics, phoenix images were added and changed after the second fire.
