Foreign components of the year 2023 were found in the North Korean missiles that Russia uses to hit Ukraine – GUR

In the North Korean KN-23/KN-24 missiles, which Russia uses for strikes on the territory of our country, foreign components of the year 2023 were found. This was reported in the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, he writes UNN.

“The War&Sanctions portal has published another list of foreign-made components found in North Korean KN-23/KN-24 ballistic missiles.

The aggressor state Russia received more than 100 such missiles from the DPRK. For the first time, the enemy used this weapon in the war against Ukraine at the end of 2023,” the GUR reported.

It is noted that together with the missiles, Pyongyang then sent its military specialists to Russia, who serviced the launchers and actually participated in war crimes against Ukraine.

The victims of KN-23/KN-24 strikes were Ukrainian civilians both in front-line communities and in settlements far from the battle line. In particular, on January 2, 2024, four people died as a result of a North Korean missile hitting a Kyiv high-rise building. On August 11, 2024, a four-year-old boy and his father were killed by KN-23/KN-24 debris in the Kyiv region, and three more citizens were injured.

The KN-23/KN-24 missile used by Russia against Ukraine contained foreign components produced by companies from five countries – the People’s Republic of China, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. At least one of them, a voltage converter labeled British manufacturer XP Power, was manufactured in February 2023, well after the start of a full-scale invasion

According to intelligence data, in order to obtain technologies for their weapons programs, the aggressor state Russia and its allies – the DPRK and Iran – use joint schemes to circumvent international sanctions, which requires an appropriate response, in particular – the strengthening of export control mechanisms.

The GUR reminded that earlier on the War&Sanctions portal the list of components found in KN-23/KN-24 missiles and components manufactured by 19 companies from seven countries – the USA, China, Japan, the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland – was published.

Let’s add

Experts of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Examinations (KNDISE) established that during the combined attack on Ukraine on November 13, Russia used, among other things, North Korean ballistic missiles of the KN-23/24 type.

According to KNDISE experts, KN-23 combines both modern technologies and solutions of the past century. A significant percentage of microelectronics is produced in China, Taiwan, the USA and other countries. Most likely, the launches are carried out from North Korean-made launchers, since it would be much more difficult to adapt Russian systems.

We will remind

Earlier, KNDISE experts spoke about the technical features of North Korean missiles, which Russia uses to attack Ukraine.
