“Agrarians said they were “protesting for two reasons,” but neither of them related to Ukraine”, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org
“The passage of trucks through the “Sheghini-Medyka” railway station has been restored,” the department noted.
Earlier, on November 23, Polish farmers blocked the “Medyka-Sheghini” checkpoint on the border with Ukraine. Protesters restricted the movement of trucks. At the same time, cars and buses were allowed to pass without restrictions.
Agrarians said they were “protesting for two reasons,” but neither of them related to Ukraine.
The first reason for the farmers’ strike is non-fulfillment of tax requirements, and the second is the signing of a free trade agreement by the European Union with South American countries (Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay).
On February 9, 2024, a farmers’ strike announced by the Solidarity trade union began in Poland. They blocked all checkpoints, as well as roads and highways in individual voivodeships.
In addition to the ban on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine, the Polish protesters oppose the European agricultural policy, in particular, against the implementation of the “green system” – it refers to a number of environmental and climate requirements. Support for animal husbandry is also among the demands.
On March 20, Polish protesters went on a nationwide strike. Farmers’ actions took place in almost 600 places and approximately 70,000 people participated in them.
Earlier, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland, Vasyl Zvarych, said that certain restrictions have already been applied in trade with Ukraine.
