Direct speech: “Brazil is a big country, I know… that most people support Ukraine, I want to thank you for that. Unfortunately, the G20 passed with very weak support for Ukraine.”

Details: The President noted that if Ukraine and Brazil want normal relations between our nations and peoples, then “it is necessary to support the people, not the aggressors, the leaders of aggression in the world.”

At the same time, according to Zelenskyi, the communique adopted at the end of the G20 summit “showed a weak position.”

“And there was a very difficult situation, I know, quite scandalous. How it was, what decision was made. Unfortunately, the leader of Brazil showed himself from a weak side,” the president emphasized.

He noted that Russian ruler Vladimir Putin cannot be stopped by populism, and that “Brazil during the G20 did not show its voice against the aggression of Putin and Russia.” And this weakness of the leaders of the twenty makes it possible for the aggressor to hit Ukraine with new missiles.

For reference: The G20 summit was held in Rio de Janeiro on November 18-19.

What preceded: Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz expressed his indignation at the fact that the final declaration of the G20 summit did not clearly formulate the thesis about the responsibility of the Russian Federation for starting the war against Ukraine.

Brazilian President Lula da Silva previously said he would invite Russian leader Vladimir Putin to this year’s summit, with Brazil also outspoken that it was “unlikely” to comply with the ICC’s arrest warrant. However, Russia later decided that its delegation to the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro on November 18-19 will be headed by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
