Kyrgios suggested changing the format of matches at Grand Slam tournaments

The Australian believes that three-set matches until the quarterfinals will make the tournaments more interesting”, — write: sport.ua

Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios proposed to change the format of men’s singles matches at Grand Slam tournaments. In his opinion, the games up to the quarter-finals should be played in the format of three sets, and starting with the quarter-finals – in five sets.

“I believe that at the Grand Slam tournaments, matches up to the quarterfinals should be played in a three-set format, and from the quarterfinals – in a five-set format. This is a change I would implement immediately. This format would allow some players to make it to the quarterfinals, but the strongest would still win the key rounds in a tense five-set battle.

In addition, the first week of the tournament would become much more interesting. How often do we see one of the favorites lose the first set, yet everyone is convinced that he can turn the game around and win? Such a format would add intrigue,” Kyrios noted.

We will remind that the odious Australian is going to take part in the home Australian Open 2025.
