“That’s their problem.” Markevich assessed Ukraine’s chances in the League of Nations playoffs

Former head coach of the national team of Ukraine Myron Markevich commented on the results of the playoff draw for a place in Division A of the League of Nations, where the “blue and yellow” got the Belgian national team.

– Mr. Miron, how do you like the fateful draw of the League of Nations playoffs?

– What I said before the draw. We had the strongest of all possible opponents. According to the FIFA rating, Belgium was the strongest team in the world. A very good team, has leaders in all areas. It will not be easy for us.

– We met with them at Euro-2024. Their advantage on the field was not noticeable.

– I’m not saying that we don’t like this team. Of the options before the draw, the Belgians are the strongest. But the game will determine the winner.

– Our opponents have certain problems in the team. Courtois refuses to play for the national team, where Bruyne has rarely been on the field recently.

– Those are their problems. Now, it is possible, the Belgians will change the coach and everything will be fine. This is a very strong team. I think they are also not happy that they got to play with Ukraine.

– That is, the chances for a duel are equal?

– Of course. It is not for nothing that the national team of Ukraine constantly performs in the finals of European championships. We have a good team with our leaders. Keep in mind that the March playoffs are still four months away. Something may change. Both in our team and in opponents.

– But it’s still a bit embarrassing, we got one of the strongest national teams in the world as opponents.

– Leave it. There is nothing in their game that coach Serhiy Rebrov and our players do not know. Yes, it will be difficult, but we also have high-level players. We have to prepare. Study opponents and adjust to them. Everything will be fine.

Ukraine will play the first match against Belgium at a conventional home arena (March 20), and the return game – away (March 23).
