The Supreme Court upheld the verdict of the court of first instance, by which three citizens were found guilty of a terrorist act that led to the death of people and illegal handling of weapons and were sentenced to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Prosecutors proved that the convicts committed a terrorist attack on February 22, 2015 near the Sports Palace in Kharkiv during the peaceful “Unity March” dedicated to the memory of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred. An anti-personnel mine with a radio-controlled device, which was hidden the day before in a pile of snow, went off. Two people died on the spot, 11 more were injured. Later, two injured people died in the hospital. A 15-year-old boy and a policeman were among the dead.
It was established that the main figure personally went to Belgorod to communicate with the Russian special services, who promised $10,000 for committing a terrorist attack. He involved two acquaintances in carrying out the plan. They were united by a hostile attitude towards pro-Ukrainian activists from the Euromaidan public movement.
In December 2019, the Frunzensky District Court of Kharkiv found the men guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment with confiscation of property. The defense appealed the verdict. The appellate court refused and left the verdict of the court of first instance unchanged.
The Supreme Court put an end to the case: the collegium supported the principled position of prosecutors and courts of two instances. The extras were finally sentenced to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
