Since its launch, Shazam has been used so many times that it took one person more than 3 millennia to do its job.

Shazam was launched in 2002 as an SMS service in the UK. Already in 2008, the program debuted as an iOS application in the App Store. By the summer of 2011, Shazam had already recognized more than 1 billion songs. To date, the number of identified tracks has already exceeded 100 billion. This means that for every person on Earth, there are 12 songs found through Shazam. If one person identified one track through Shazam every second, it would take them 3,168 years to find 100 billion tracks.

According to Apple, which has owned Shazam since 2018, the most popular song in the app is Dance Monkey by Tones and I. The song has been searched for more than 45 million times.

Apple also released a selection of the top 100 Shazam-searched tracks on Apple Music.
