As the publication notes, special elections in Germany are to be held on February 23. And in mid-November, it became known that the party of the current chancellor, Olaf Scholz, SPD, was considering the option of running for this position of Pistorius, who is more popular than the current head of the federal government.

At the same time, the ruling Social Democratic Party of the Federal Republic of Germany is already lagging behind in the polls, and is in third place after the opposition conservatives and the far-right.

On November 21, Pistorius announced that he would not run in the upcoming elections.

I have just informed the leaders of our party and parliamentary groups that I will not stand as a candidate for Federal Chancellor

Pistorius emphasized that this is his “sovereign and completely personal decision.”

We will remind

At a closed meeting, SPD deputies expressed dissatisfaction with Olaf Scholz as a candidate in the elections. They suggest replacing him with the more popular Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
