The French Senate (the upper house of parliament) has voted to introduce seven additional hours of unpaid work per year.

About this informs Reuters.

An amendment to the 2025 state budget bill, proposed by center-right senator Elizabeth Duano, would see people work seven additional hours (one workday) during the year without being paid.

It is noted that employers will have to pay additional contributions to the social insurance fund for these hours worked.

Despite being approved by the Senate, the amendment, which could bring an additional 2.5 billion euros in revenue from additional labor fees to the budget, may still be rejected in the final reading of the budget.

Previously, in order to provide additional funding to the budget, it was proposed to cancel one of the official public holidays. Legislators failed to agree on which holiday to cancel.
