Both officials are accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity during the conflict with Palestine.

The ICC said the crimes were committed from at least October 8, 2023 to at least May 20, 2024. Arrest warrants are marked “secret” to protect witnesses and ensure an investigation.

“The Chamber issued arrest warrants for two individuals, Binyamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant, for crimes against humanity and war crimes committed from at least October 8, 2023, to at least May 20, 2024, the date on which the prosecutor’s office requested the arrest warrants “, the statement says.

The pre-trial chamber of the ICC recognized that there are grounds to believe that Netanyahu and Gallant deliberately and knowingly deprived the civilian population of Gaza of items necessary for survival – food, water, medicine and medical supplies, as well as fuel and electricity.

The ICC said that Israel’s decision to allow or increase humanitarian aid to Gaza was often conditional – seen as a response to pressure from the international community or requests from the US.

Also, the amount of humanitarian aid is considered insufficient and they say that the civilian population did not have access to basic necessities.

The ICC also announced that it had issued an arrest warrant for the leader of the military wing of Hamas, Muhammad Diab Ibrahim al-Masri, known as Muhammad Deif, whose death was announced by the IDF in the summer.

It will be recalled that on May 20, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, called on the pre-trial chamber to issue arrest warrants for the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense of Israel, as well as several Hamas leaders on charges of war crimes.

Western countries reacted to this call in a contradictory manner. Some expressed support for the court and readiness to execute the warrant if it is issued, some called the equating of Israel and Hamas unacceptable.
