The Second Crimea Global International Conference began in Kyiv. Understanding Ukraine through the South. Its initiators are the Representation of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the Office of the Crimean Platform, co-organizers are the Media Initiative for Human Rights, the ZMINA Center for Human Rights, Ukrainian PEN.

More than 100 participants of the event include experts, government officials, ambassadors and representatives of African, Asian and Latin American countries.

The conference is dedicated to deepening the dialogue between Ukraine and the countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America, because this is one of the diplomatic priorities of our state. During the event, participants will be able to familiarize themselves with the situation in Ukraine, in particular at the front, as well as discuss ways of supporting the Peace Formula, restoring justice, global food security, the successes of our country in the Black Sea, and the situation with human rights.

Special attention is paid to the liberation of Crimea, which is important for the countries of this region from the point of view of the reaction to violations of the UN Charter, food and energy security, as well as the experience of overcoming colonialism.

Separately, the permanent representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Tamila Tasheva, spoke about the restoration of Ukraine’s control over the Black Sea and the introduction of a temporary corridor after the termination of the grain agreement.

“Thanks to this corridor, even under the conditions of constant threat from the Russian occupation forces, 76.8 million tons of products passed through Ukrainian ports, most of which are grain. This corridor has become critically important for global food security, especially for countries that are heavily dependent on Ukrainian grain,” Tamila Tasheva added.

The first panel discussion was devoted to the efforts of the world community to achieve a just peace for Ukraine.

Daria Zarivna, adviser to the head of the Office of the President, noted in her speech:

“In just one generation, Eastern Europe lost its independence due to the Soviet occupation and the subsequent domination of the USSR. At the same time, dozens of countries outside the West gained independence during the same period. This gave them a unique opportunity to stay away from European and Euro-Atlantic problems and quarrels. We fully respect the right of these countries to be neutral. We realize how difficult and long their path was. But Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is completely different. This is not a conflict between Russia and the West. This is not a proxy war. For Russia, this is a colonial war. For us, this is a struggle for independence and survival. At the same time, its influence goes far beyond our borders: nuclear safety, food safety, global logistics, environmental catastrophe. If even one attempt at recolonization succeeds, it will endanger the sovereignty of dozens of countries around the world. This key fact is missing from all foreign peace plans we have seen so far.”

Regarding the possibility of a just end to this war, as well as the prevention of further conflicts, Daria Zarivna said: “President Zelensky’s peace formula is designed to prevent war from becoming the dominant tool of international politics in the 21st century. The power of this Formula lies in collective action. It gives every state of good will the opportunity to show leadership. For countries that do not belong to the West, this is a chance to become pioneers in implementing global reforms.”

This international conference was held for the first time last year and brought together more than 300 participants.
