Alajuelense, who has won 30 league titles, wants FIFA to enforce a rule barring clubs with one owner from the tournament.
“The application is based on the admission principles established in the rules of the tournament,” the club’s press release says.
Team representative Marco Vasquez noted that the Mexican clubs Leon and Pachuca belong to the same owner — Jesus Martinez, owner of Grupo Pachuca.
“These are the rules established by FIFA – there can be no multi-ownership,” Vasquez said. “There are two Mexican clubs from one owner, and the regulations are quite clear. We ask to review what FIFA itself has established.”
We will remind, the tournament was expanded to 32 teams and will be held in the USA in the summer of next year.
“We have hired a law firm in Spain and they have all the details of the case,” Vazquez said of the possible lawsuit.
CONCACAF has four berths in the Club World Cup, which went to Seattle, Monterrey, León and Pachuca. Inter Miami will participate as the host of the tournament.
It should be noted that the KCHM-2025 draw is scheduled for December 5.
