San Diego’s official website announced the addition of Juan Mata to the club’s ownership group as a partner.

In this way, the 36-year-old Spaniard became the first legionnaire who received a share of ownership in an MLS club even before the end of his football career and only the second in total after David Beckham (Inter Miami).

“Joining San Diego as a partner is a great chance to help build something really special in a city and league that are going through an incredible phase of growth. I look forward to sharing my experience and passion for the game and working with everyone here to build a club that who inspires both on and off the field,” said Mata.

We will remind that San Diego will join MLS in 2025, becoming the fourth representative of California and the 30th participant of the tournament.

In the summer of this year, the club already announced the future acquisition of PSV striker Irving Losano.

Mata himself is currently a player for Western Sydney Wanderers. During the new season of the Australian championship (started in October), the attacking midfielder took part in four matches (141 minutes), without being distinguished by productive actions.

Earlier, Andres Iniesta became a co-owner of the club from Denmark.
