Civilians released from Russian captivity will have the right to postpone mobilization: the Verkhovna Rada supported the draft law

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted draft law No. 12104 as a whole on clarifying the grounds for deferment of military service during mobilization. 304 People’s Deputies voted “for”.

Among the important changes is granting the right to deferment from mobilization to those whose close relatives have disappeared and to civilians released from Russian captivity.

At the end of October, during a meeting with representatives of civil society, President Volodymyr Zelensky was handed a letter of request from relatives of released prisoners regarding the possibility of introducing a deferment from mobilization for this category of Ukrainians.

The head of state instructed the deputy head of the Office of the President Iryna Vereshchuk to deal with this issue. Last week, she held a meeting with representatives of human rights organizations and relatives of civilians held in captivity, during which they worked out the formulation of changes to the relevant draft law. Members of the profile committee of the VRU discussed the proposed amendments and voted for them during the meeting.
