The Biden administration is said to be deeply concerned by Russian attacks on the front lines in recent weeks and is taking steps to stop the Russian advance. The Pentagon believes that the provision of mines is one of the most useful steps that Washington can take to counter the Russian offensive.
The interlocutors of the publication emphasized that the Ukrainian side undertook not to install these mines in densely populated areas.
They noted that these mines were created specifically to stop the advance of ground forces.
As of 2022, the United States had about 3 million anti-personnel landmines that had been largely unused since 1991.

However, Russia’s actions on the battlefield in recent months have forced the White House to seek new approaches.
More than 160 countries (not including the USA) have signed an international treaty banning the use of anti-personnel mines, as these weapons of indiscriminate action can cause harm to the civilian population. At the same time, Russia widely uses them on the front line.
One of the officials said that the US anti-personnel mines in question self-destruct or lose their batteries within days or weeks of being planted, reducing their danger to civilians.
As reported, Biden recently allowed Ukraine to use American long-range weapons to strike deep into Russia.
