During her visit to Slovenia, the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska met with the teachers and rectorate of the University of Ljubljana.
The President’s wife noted that their meeting is taking place on the thousandth day since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, and spoke about the damaged 114 institutions of higher education and dozens of dead students.
The first lady thanked the institution for its support of Ukrainian students who study there, as well as for the projects of the Faculty of Architecture for the restoration of Vasyl Karazin Kharkiv National University.
During the meeting, Rector Gregor Maidych officially announced the creation of a department of Ukrainian studies at the university.
“This decision was long-awaited for Ukraine, because the departments of Slovene studies have been working in Kyiv and Lviv for more than 15 years. And this is a solid addition to the global coalition of Ukrainian studies. Knowledge always strengthens. I hope that another center of Ukrainian studies will make Ukraine, Slovenia, and everyone who wants to know the truth stronger,” the President’s wife said.
In addition, Olena Zelenska together with the First Gentleman of Slovenia Alesh Musar took part in the opening of the Ukrainian bookshelf in the national university library. In total, there are already 200 such shelves in 50 countries of Europe, Asia, Africa, and America.
