Finland, Germany and Sweden are investigating damage to two communication cables running along the bottom of the Baltic Sea.

As “European Truth” writes, this is reported by SVT.

After information about the second damaged cable appears – between Sweden and Lithuania – the Swedish government commented that the incidents are being investigated.

“We can confirm that the relevant Swedish authorities are investigating these events,” commented the Minister of Civil Protection, Carl-Oscar Bolin. “.

The Armed Forces of Sweden noted that they are also monitoring the development of events and communication with other allies.

Finland and Germany hinted in a joint statement about the incident that they suspected sabotage.

“A threat to European security is not only Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, but also a hybrid war by players with unfriendly intentions,” they said.

From the comments to the press from the operators whose cables were affected, it is known that the “Finnish” cable stopped functioning normally from approximately 3 am local time on Monday, and the problems with the Swedish-Lithuanian one started already on Sunday morning.

In the Finnish Cinia, it was noted that the malfunction is most likely due to some external influence and sabotage cannot be excluded, however, explosions in the area of damage were not recorded.

We will remind, first on Monday it became known about damage to the communication cable of the Finnish company Cinia, which runs along the bottom of the Baltic Sea next to the “Nordic Stream” and connects Finland with Germany.

In autumn 2023, an underwater pipeline from Finland to Estonia and a cable of a communications operator were damaged in the Gulf of Finland. The culprit of the problem considered a Chinese vesselwhich could break them with an anchor dragging along the bottom. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
